Description

Small in the Great Castle

Bilingual narrative by Marinella Vlachaki, based on the childhood memories of Nikos Kazantzakis
(contains a DVD with the theatrical rendition of the text)

The journey of little Nikos Kazantzakis from childhood to adolescence and from Slavery to Freedom. Using as a vehicle the memories of the great Cretan, we travel with him, at the end of the 19th century, to the Great Castle and meet him discovering, observing and recording with the senses, the world full of contradictions around him. To confuse reality with imagination, to be excited and frightened, with nature, people, situations, manners, customs, coexistence with the conquerors and the father’s passion for freedom.

Nikos Kazantzakis was one of the leading intellectual figures of Hellenism. He was born in Heraklion, Crete on February 18, 1883 and died in Freiburg, Germany on October 26, 1957.
