Published by the Chania Film Festival, a book dedicated to the emblematic film “Stella” by Michael Cacoyannis with rare posters and photographs, publications and reviews from all the way of the film.<\/p>\n
Cacoyannis, in his mythical film, is deeply influenced by the ancient tragedians, Sophocles and Euripides. In Stella’s face we recognize elements of Antigone. Imperious, fearless, both in the face of the “laws” of men, they are led to death, obeying their own internal moral law. The way the Director stands before Stella and the laudatory reviews of the foreign press project the heroine as the model of female liberation.<\/p>\n
“Stella” represented Greece at the Cannes Film Festival in May 1955, receiving favorable reviews and paving the way for her protagonist, Melina Mercouri, for an international career.<\/p>\n
