Summary:
The Mykonian Pastoral is Noah's ark, where the last indigenous people of one of the most cosmopolitan islands in the world, seek refuge from the tourist cataclysm that threatens to wipe them out. Continuing the traditions of another era, they and their lives invite us to a simpler and slower world, where even the most thankless work seems grandiose and valuable.
Focusing on Mau, the only agricultural area left on the island, we will meet a cast of authentic Mykonians who will share with us an unknown Mykonos that looks more like a mirage: a timeless, peaceful place, where time is not money and quiet everyday life is more precious than gold. Does this world really exist or do they just imagine it?
Eliana Abravanel
Eliana Abravanel is a director and visual artist. He was born in Greece and lives between Mykonos, Athens and Tel Aviv. Having completed her studies in Economics and History in Greece and England, she returned to school, graduating from the Department of Film Studies of New York College in 2009. "Roughcut", her first feature-length documentary, premiered at the Thessaloniki Documentary Festival in 2013, hitting theaters a few months later. "Finish Line" is her second feature work, a synathletic documentary about runners of all ages who have seen their lives change, kilometer by kilometer.
The film was particularly loved by the running community and was played at many racing events. Her new project, Mykonian Pastoral, is a thoughtful look at the island of Mykonos that for decades has offered refuge to her and her family as if they were locals.
