Summary:

A shocking and deeply intimate documentary where three children were temporarily removed from their parents, but find hope within the environment of a remarkable orphanage in Eastern Ukraine as a team of dedicated social workers creates moments of joy and rest for these children whose childhood has been lost.

 

Director

Simon Lereng Wilmont

He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark. Simon graduated as a documentary filmmaker from the Danish National Film School in 2009. His first feature-length documentary film, The Distant Barking of Dogs (2017), premiered at IDFA (2017) and was awarded Best First Appearance. She has since won 35+ awards worldwide, including the McBaine Documentary Award at the San Francisco SFFILM Festival, was nominated for a European Film Award (EFA 2018), Emmy (2020) and was nominated for an Academy Award (2019). The film also won a Peabody Award (2020).
As a director, his films also include Dormitory Master (2009), Above Ground, Beneath the Sky (2008), Chikara - The Sumo Wrestler's Son (2013) and The Fencing Champion (2014).
