Description

Mikis Theodorakis showed in practice that he is a great Cretan, a courageous fighter and pioneering artist, fascinated by visions of social change and Greek cultural advancement.

Educated Cretan, he had learned from a young age to resist, to oppose and not to submit.

Rebellion and revolution, overthrow and resistance are in his blood, from his Cretan roots. As a revolutionary, he has unwavering faith in his cause. He enters the fire to defend his values and ideas and is ready to suffer the consequences of his actions.

When history needs him, he is there with the rifle and the lyre in hand. A leader, a frontline fighter, he does not support from a distance the struggle of others, he is not of the rear, he is never an observer and an accuser of social and political injustice, but a fighter for change, first of consciences and measures of situations. In that sense he is unlike any other composer in the world.

And in art he thinks and acts in the same way as in life. His goal is through his music to recreate reality, to change it.
